I have a real passion to share meditation and the art of contemplation with you in simplest and most effective form.

After years and years and thousands of hours of meditative practice and study into the a variety of contemplative traditions and modern neurosciences, years of leading meditation teacher trainings and years of shepherding clients towards inner peace through one on one work, the absolute creme of the crop in terms of practices that actually, sustainably change your life, have risen up.

In creating this course I asked myself a few questions that became the very foundation of what this course if about.

What is actually going to change your nervous system, your unconscious reactions, the way your brain is currently wired and the neural coherence between your brain and your heart?

What are the therapeutic and psychological contemplative disciplines that bring people more fully alive?

And how will they TRULY help you (and me) as a husband, father, wife, mum, friend, employer, employee, son or daughter be the most stable and alive that I can be?


In order to answer the above questions with you, I’ve decided to shelve our flagship teacher training to run this training, not (necessarily) to create teachers but to change lives.

And I hope, if you are drawn to this course, you will be able to join us.

One question that I get asked about this training is if it is a spiritual or religious training.

The answer is no, it isn’t. My family (my wife, my son and I) aren’t religious but we have a spiritual daily practice of reading the bible, meditating, prayer journaling and more. We love and worship God and we hope, sincerely, that this work can glorify Him. It was, in fact, our morning contemplations and conversations with God that led us to shelf the teacher training and run this course in its place this year.

But in saying all of that, the contents of this training are about fine tuning your mind, body and heart-centred emotions so that whatever you believe comes more alive for you and you can create a deeper sense of peace and wholehearted living regardless of your spiritual or religious orientation.

Here’s some more specific info about the training -

CURRICULUM 

This course is made up of practical tools that only require what you already have within you. You don’t need any bells or whistles - nothing! Just your body, mind, heart, an internet connection and a comfortable place to sit! 

Once you know how to use the tools that you already have they will be with you forever. 

You will see below that each session is geared towards practical healing. And practical healing is what we call inner gardening, which requires 3 things; preparing the garden bed and all the tools, uprooting or pruning the old, planting the new and enjoying the garden. 

You’ll see that the first section is focused on preparing the garden bed (learning how to breath effectively, how to posture your heart and how to meditate), then the second section is focused on turning the soil over and removing the weeds (thought processes, emotions and mental habits that are no longer relevant to you) and the third section is focused more of planting seeds (recognising what you want to grow) enjoying the garden (learning how to just BE and enjoying the fruits of your labour and thanks giving for what you do already have). 

This curriculum offer a holistic roadmap for psychological and neurological change! And don’t just trust me, because obviously I will be bias because I love this stuff. Read the words of all of the beautiful people who have done this course with us already!

Here’s a more detailed look at the course layout……

PART 1.

In part one we learn the dynamic principles of a consistent meditation practice. Once we learn how to meditate and have our own consistent practice we can then work with the more subtle therapeutic nuances that come with Part 2.

LESSON 1 - WELCOME AND PREPARATION
How to posture your heart as preparation for meditation using what we call “the prayer sandwich”
How to use the “arc of breathwork” to regulate your nervous system and prepare for meditation

LESSON 2 - THE POWER OF CONCENTRATION
Discover the incredible gifts that comes with focused attention, like more energy, less ruminating and clear direction for e.g.
How to build a stable, consistent, rigidity free, concentration based meditation practice using the “inner and outer circles of concentration”

LESSON 3 - SENSITIVITY
How we can use our 5 senses to foster presence, patience and become less distractible
How working with the senses increase our capacity to concentrate 
Learn how to meditate safely by using the senses in cases of extreme stress, mental turbulence or PTSD.


PART 2

After setting up a really solid meditation practice in part 1, which is like preparing the garden, we can now rip up the weeds, prune the old plants and clarify what we want to grow.

In this section we dive deep into the subtle yet highly effective contemplative practices that make up the therapeutic aspect of this meditation course. The same foundational meditation practice remains, but now we add different points of focus to encourage deep change in the mind and brain.

LESSON 4 - RELEASING STRESS
How to prime your nervous system to be able to let go of stress related tendencies
The benefits of conscious mind wandering inside of meditation and how it can help release accumulated stressors
Developing a new relationship with the whole idea of stress

LESSON 5 - DEFENSELESSNESS
Disarming the reactive tendencies and stress inducing habits of the ego that create inner and outer conflict
Opening and collapsing rigid, unhelpful mental structures

LESSON 6 - BASIC GOODNESS 
Negating the striving and over-efforting habits of the mind and culture we live in.
Returning home to knowledge of innate worth and innocence. 
Understanding the basic building blocks of the mind and why our unique brains are wired the way they are, for better or worse!

LESSON 7 - EMOTIONAL FITNESS
Meditation’s most powerful heart tool to build emotional wellbeing: equanimity.
Meditation strategies to release harboured emotions including the E.A.S.E method
How you attitude towards your emotions can build emotional resilience

LESSON 8 - SAFETY AND ANXIETY
How deep inner experiences of safety and peace pave the way to less anxiety
How releasing limiting beliefs unravel the minds anxious tendencies

LESSON 9 - IDENTITY
Clarify the difference between personality and identity. In other words, the difference between who you really are and who you have become, or what psychologists call your true self and your false self.
Learn to dis-identify from the afflictions of the mind that promote suffering.


PART 3

In part 3 we begin to plant seeds in the garden bed, water then daily and eventually enjoy the fruits and flowers of our meditation practice.

LESSON 10 - THE 3 MOST POWERFUL QUESTIONS
How to finish your meditation in the most beautiful way, growing inner states of appreciation, positive expectation and deliberate intention.
How to grow the good in your on mind in a way that changes the neural structure of your brain.

LESSON 11 -  HEARTFULNESS A.
How to make your heart and head work together in harmony to minimise inner conflict and increase coherence.
Growing sustainable inner states of love and kindness

LESSON 12 - HEARTFULNESS B.
De-armouring the heart through surrender.
Affirmative, heart-centred prayer
Integrating all course materials into an ongoing practice so you can apply everything you learnt from now into the future.

WHY WE NEED THIS COURSE

You as a youngster probably weren’t taught that art of holistic wellbeing and how to thrive as a human being.

You might have learnt how to write a good essay, how to apply trigonometry, how to write, prepare and cost a menu (if you were a chef like me) or how to dissect a rat in high school science.

All these kinds of things prepare us for the workforce. But they don’t prepare us for life.

If we want this type of knowledge we have to hunt it out ourselves. We were told what to learn but we were never taught how to use the very thing we are meant to learn with: our minds and hearts.

Every report card I ever got from teachers said that “Michael has great potential as a student but is easily distracted by other students,” yet we were never taught how to concentrate! I got told I lacked compassion, yet I was never taught HOW to grow compassion within myself or how to extend it to another.

We typically don’t learn anything about -

How to balance our nervous system, or even what our nervous system is! Which, when we understand that we interpret our whole world through our nervous system, it’s kind of a big deal!

  • How to breathe and how paramount breathing is for our health

  • Why our mind does what it does and thinks how it thinks

  • How to master our distractions

  • How to develop emotional intelligence and let go of past experiences

  • How to live with meaning and purpose

  • How to let go and adapt

There comes a time where we take a small portion of all the information we gathered in school or university that’s relevant to us, and apply it in our chosen field. And we’re left with questions that bubble up from a lack of deeper fulfilment in life. We might be working, making money, going through the motions, but our heart isn’t on fire for life.

At this point, if we don’t know what to do we either become restless and destructive or apathetic and lethargic.

MEDITATION COACH TRAINING

This 3 month course, Heart’s On Fire, also serves as a prerequisite for our meditation coach training. The Meditation Coach Training is for 2 types of people -

1. Professionals (teachers, mentors, coaches, counsellors, psychologists etc) who want to expand upon what they learn in this training and be able to share it in both one on one and group settings, or
2.Students who want to start their own meditation coach business.

We wanted to offer Hearts On Fire for everyone - not just those who want to teach - so it’s a foundational course that can be expanded upon for those who are called in that direction.
